The data from the biodiversity database displayed on GBIF is subject to the CC-BY-NC licence. It can be accessed freely for non-commercial purposes, with reference to the source (Haus der Natur Salzburg).

For commercial use an official data request can be submitted to the Haus der Natur using the form. For a lot of data, additional metadata (e.g. breeding information) is available, which is necessary for conservation assessments but is currently not mapped on GBIF. The locations of selected species (e.g. those that are particularly sensitive to disturbance) are only provided to GBIF with a coordinate precision of approximately 1 km. More metadata and precisely located records can be provided via the official database query.

As the data available in the biodiversity database consists predominantly of opportunistically recorded observations from various sources, no conclusions regarding the actual absence of a species can be drawn from the absence of sighting reports. In the context of nature conservation, the database query is a valuable tool for the early identification of potential occurrences of protected species, but cannot replace targeted field mapping.
